Sep 10: The USA has eliminated the $800 exemption from duties on shipments from Canada. Our first shipments starting August 29 incurred large duty owing (we’ve halted USA shipments until we can avoid those charges). We have so far had no success in getting UPS to do anything meaningful for those shipments. They just seem too bogged down. For anyone who has paid duty and received their knife, we still hope UPS will be able to process our requests and that those will translate into refunded charges. We will keep you informed until that initial group all gets resolved one way or another.

For USA orders we’ve been holding back, today we got some clear guidance from UPS what we need to do to ship duty free. There’s some pretty subtle stuff, plus extra work to create the shipments, but it looks promising. We have a test order that will ship tomorrow so we should know by Friday if we can create shipments for all outstanding orders bound for the US.

Hopefully we can have a proven solution by week end. We will update this notice as needed to keep you informed.

The postal system here remains in an uncertain state. To avoid shipments being stuck in a Canada Post warehouse we’ll continue mostly avoiding the postal system until the job action has ended. We will use alternate tracked services like UPS, DHL and Purolator. Until then. We have set up a rule-based shipping cost calculator on our store and this should work in most cases. If we charge you dramatically more than the shipping costs us, we will refund you. Likewise, if what you paid through our store is significantly low (as can happen if you live in a more remote area), we will let you know.
