The Skaha has evolved since first production:
- The first release of the Skaha (later known as the Skaha I) had a flat stainless clip held on by 2 screws. Blade was S35VN. Blade bevels were milled (lines on blade) and had a month/year date engraved on the clip side of the blade near the pivot, visible when closed and “Made in BC” just in front of the right side scale, visible when open. On the left scale near the handle we engraved “S35VN”, visible when open.
- The Skaha II introduced modified internal parts incompatible with the Skaha 1.
It now had a wire clip and some minor machining differences to the flipper, jimping, and sharpening choil areas. The blade was the same as the Skaha 1, other than the machining tweaks.
- Next, we went to ground blades, meaning instead of milling the bevels, we ground the bevels. There were no more lines on the blade. We deliberated whether this change should be called the Skaha 3, but since mechanically we had made no changes, we felt that would imply a new generation, when really all we did was grind rather than mill the blade bevels. With this change, we switched to engraving a serial number instead of a date. It is located near the scale, below the steel type, on the left side flat, visible when open. First ground blade is serial number 973. We also introduced a “BC Maple leaf” symbol, visible when closed, on the left flat next to the lockbar cutout. A small number of these were engraved as a simple line drawing. We soon moved to a 3D version of the same size, but where the body of the leaf is heavily engraved while the “BC” inside the leaf appears raised.
- Then the Skaha II steel was switched to MagnaCut from S35VN. The steel type engraved above the serial number changed appropriately. The first MagnaCut serial number is 2092.
For completeness, the handle colour/material selection from the Skaha 1 through till today have changed periodically. We did not keep track of which variations above had which handle colours. The rarer colours would be white, lime green, tan, day glow yellow, and possibly coyote brown.
